The reason Sonic being flat without much character development works so well is because he *inspires* character development into those around him. Thinking that maybe, in some way, he deserves this for what his bloodline did. I love that kind of introspection, it's so interesting and real. And I think that's one of the biggest things that's been missing. The characters feeling real. Nuanced. These characters being less like characters and more like living beings. Not a punchline, not an icon, not an archetype, not a brand. Just living and breathing beings.

20:55 Thing is, that comparison to the Mushroom Kingdom doesn't even hold any water. The Mushroom Kingdom has an actual lore excuse to show up a lot. It's literally Princess Peach's Kingdom. Y'know, an INTEGRAL Mario character that is in almost every game? Even then, we don't really explore it too much outside of 64 and Odyssey. 2 out of the god knows how many Mario games. If it's featured in the others, it's usually in the background or something. In the sports games it's playable, but it's either not that noticeable or it effects the gameplay, like in Toadstool Tour. Plus, it's much more expansive than Green Hill since it's a *whole Kingdom* and not just the castle. The thing with Green Hill is that it just...keeps showing up. For some reason there's this unspoken rule now that Green Hill simply HAS to be the 1st level in a Sonic game. What happened to Palmtree Panic? Windy Hill? Angel Island? Emerald Hill? Yes, these all share mostly the same aesthetic as Green Hill, but at least they mix it up design and music-wise. I'm fine with a Green Hill-esque level as long as they put a spin on it. Keep it interesting. New. Fresh. And don't name it Green Hill. We genuinely need to pull away from having to have Green Hill specifically be the 1st. Grassy 1st level? That's fine. It always having to be Green Hill? That's not.

Evan’s argument is really dumb, this is like saying Sonic Forces isn’t the 4th boost game because it’s not called Unleashed 4. Clearly Sonic 06 has much more in common with the Adventure games than heroes does. Evan disregards Sam’s arguments simply because the game isn’t called SA3, so it’s not possible for it to play like an adventure game, the logic here makes no sense.

@40:28-.-I would literally argue the exact opposite. If movement is going to be A trinari still, walking, or running, with no in between, then they should _just_ add A run button. Setting run to a fresh hold makes it so that you have to make absolutely certain you don't hold a stick up all the way, turning not running into a dexterity check (which I believe to be purely back game design), especially when turning. This very threshold based system actually ruined a Super Mario Party mini game, the one we have to carry a bomb over various terrain. My mother kept accidentally running when she clearly did it mean to, and I did sometimes too. If the game doesn't have to run button, Then it should either have true analog speed or only one set speed, having exactly two movers speeds map to the analog stick will only ever be annoying or pointless.

@32:18-.-I find Nimsony's word choice here to be interesting. To me, the character exclusively moving in the direction they're facing is something I would consider to be a definitive example of rigidness. And while the character directly moving in the direction you hold the stick may not usually _look_ natural, the character always moving in the direction you tell them to move with no exception is infinitely more intuitive, and so _feels_ more natural.

I'm always hearing about the fandom, and I'm always hearing that it's toxic. It's actually very intriguing. I never thought people could be THIS divided, over a video game.
